Captain's Corner
Club Report

Good morning golfers

I want to give a shout out to our "Futures" group who are livening up the course on Sunday's.

Here's a few images from last Sunday.

Twelve young people played the course and two others had a coaching session with Maurice Munro on our recently revamped practice fairway.

After the golf they all met back at the clubhouse for complimentary "chips" and a drink.

Again, big thanks to Clayton Willocks and Maurice Munro for their efforts with these young people.

Our Futures members have a dedicated tee slot for now at 11.30am on Sunday.

Parents are welcome to come along and play a few holes themselves, and a package has been produced for a junior membership and a multi trip green fee ticket, $375 all inclusive. (Could be either 9 hole or 18 hole green fee ticket)

To add to the excitement we will shortly have the services of a "professional" to support Junior programs in schools for the first and last terms each year,  develop and deliver a coaching program for juniors capable of holding an 18 hole handicap with a view to establishing a sustainable junior Inter Club team at Karori.  This is a very healthy development for the club.

This coach will be available to members too, and details around how this will work will be advised once agreements have been concluded.

Another thing to add to our package of benefits for being a Karori Golf Club Member.

1. Build it and they will come...

We need more members.

A lot of work has gone in to building up the club facilities and we are at a point where we should be pushing to get new members to join the club.

We are offering a rate of $995 for sixteen months for anyone wishing to move their membership to Karori, and we are welcoming back members who wish to return, similarly for the rate of $995 for sixteen months.

We will be promoting this through social media and our website and we are asking each of you to help out here.

Any members who introduces a new member to the club gets a two month extension on their membership and as your subscription date nears you may want to avail yourself of the opportunity to grab this extension.

2. More remedial work to be done

Next week TK will need to temporarily close both the front and back nine for some remedial work on our recently renovated greens.  This will be a temporary inconvenience but one which is necesary to deal with a problem which has developed in a few of our greens.

During this time one or other of the nines will be available for play.

Timing of this will be weather dependant.  Looking at the long term forecast this is likely to be Thursday and Friday.

Volunteers may be needed for a couple of days so keep an eye out for a call for "help".  As always with these things, many hands make light work.  This will be to sand a couple of greens which need a little bit more tlc, likely numbers 1 and 15.

It is envisaged that the course will be fully playable by the weekend.

Any updates will be advised.

3. Thank you Ngatau Hemopo and John Markham

You should now be able to find your ball in the 5th creek following John's cleanup effort on Monday.

I know he found dozens of balls in his efforts so for whatever reason this stretch of water just in front of the tee blocks seems to be a "ball magnet".

And Ngatau has left the 16th creek in pristine condition.  It looks great!

4. WGI Inter Club - Final Round

This Saturday is the final round of the WGI Inter Club season.

Three of our teams are engaged in the "dance of the desperates" and need to gain a good handful of points to avoid relegation for next season.

Division 2 is off to Masterton for a 9am tee time, Division 5 are off to Judgeford, Division 9 host Waikanae at Karori, and Division 12 (The Hillbillies) conclude their season hosting Kapiti at Karori.

Good luck to all teams and a special thanks to team Captains and the club marshal Terry McAlister for all their efforts this season.

The Tin Cup will be contested on the Saturday following (25 May) so team captains should advise me as soon as possible their squads for the day so that I can work out a draw.

Gaskies

Thank you to everyone who took time to reply to my inpromptu survey on the Gaskies group on a Sunday morning.

The feedback has been very helpful.

In future I will promote it as "Gaskies - All Comers" as a signal to all members that they are most welcome to join in.

Remember that we meet at the picnic table at 8.45am Sunday mornings for the card draw and then organise groups for the 9.06am tee time.

Everyone is welcome, particularly new comers.  Affiliated visitors are most welcome too.

And, just a reminder to Sunday players to select the Sunday Club Day when they print their card.  There is a winner (best 10 counting rounds) at the end of the season with an appropriate trophy awarded.

Shootout

There is plenty of time to enter this event.

$25 entry fee goes in to the pot for an end of year "Shootout" among the top 19 qualifiers.

At the moment seven of the "horses" have the requisite ten rounds played so there is room for many more.  The last quaifying round may be played at the end of November.

Captain Norks is the current holder after prevailing over the perennial Geoffrey Lee at the final hole last year.

The event is so much fun.

Come and join in.

Ends

That's all from me for this week.

Keep an eye out for course updates and any other developments during the week.

Enjoy a good golfing week.
