Wow - for the second consecutive year we have a full field for the City of Wellington Classsic. Impressively, almost half of the entries are non-KGC members and over 10% are Juniors. A fantastic opportunity to showcase our club. The course is looking great and the greens will be fast! A huge thanks to all the staff & volunteers who have put in extra hours to make the event a success - it takes a villiage!!! The City of Wellington Classic - Rules

It's a perfect time to remind members of the rules for tomorrow's City of Wellington Classic...

Playing Rules:

  • No pickups - all holes to be putted out.
  • Placing - as annotated on your scorecard.
  • Free drop IF YOU ARE IN A SAND-FILLED DIVOT through the green.
  • GUR/Drop Zones/Penalty Areas are clearly marked.
  • New PENALTY AREA on the unmown part of the 9th gully - drop zone at the top of drop off.
  • Drop zones are marked.
  • Lost Ball/OB Drop - nearest point to the closest fairway and take stroke & distance penalty (i.e. stroke and distance alternative rule - 2 shot penalty).
  • A three-minute maximum search time for a lost ball, as per standard tournament rules.

Local Rules (to be read in conjunction with the rules printed on the scorecard):

  • Abnormal Ground Conditions (wheel marks, scrapings etc) - place within one club length, no closer to the hole, in same class of terrain.
  • Drop Zones on Holes 6, 9 (new), 12, 15, 18 are defined with a plain wooden stake. Place within 2 club lengths no closer to the hole.
  • All Drains are GUR unless marked as penalty - one club length drop, no closer to the hole.

Good luck out there!!!

9H Women

Six women enjoyed playing a stableford round today in beautiful weather, no wind, which was quite unexpected.  Sue McLaren won, Jane Campbell second with Lindsey Pickering third. The course is looking in great shape for Saturdays competition. (Thanks Julie).

Wednesday Club

Thirteen golfers finished their rounds in glorious conditions in the Stableford competition on Wednesday. The winner was Peter Alkema (36 points) from David Petersen (35 points). Michael Cox was nearest the pin on the 4th, but no twos were recorded on the day. David and Peter also featured in the raffle prizes although their positions were reversed. They also got a chocolate along with everyone else. (Cheers Patrick)

Wednesday Twilight

We had 39 golfers dotted all over the front nine, keenly seeking the 'win' at Twilight this Wednesday. The course was in great condition and once again we saw some great scores!  In first place this week was Sam Julian on 22 stableford points, second place went to Sam Gardiner on 21 points, with Mark Cooney, Tim Brosnahan and Barnie Van Biljon coming third on 20 points. Luanne Cockburn took out the NTP and David McNaughtan got two 'two's this week - after overshooting the 6th green he chipped in from 20 metres, then on hole #2 he wasn't sure where his ball had ended up, only to find it a 'gimmie putt' away from the pin! A prize also went to Sam Julian for his eagle on hole #7 (achieved with a zigzag through the trees from the 8th fairway!!).

Thanks once again to all our helpers, particularly David Eley and Eric McAuley on the BBQ this week, and to Karen and Ossie for the lovely salads. See you all next week for another evening of social/fun golf and dinner. (Cheers Gail)
